Ailsa Currie
Ailsa farms at Bellevue Farm with her husband and two sons. Bellevue is a mixed livestock farm with two holiday cottages on the west side of Arran. After completing the Scottish Enterprise Rural Leadership Programme, she started guided tours of the farm and these have grown in popularity over the years. With the help of Leader funding, they have created ‘Bellevue Barn’ to give visitors an insight into farming life, find out where their food comes from and hear the story of how Arran food production fits together. They found that tour visitors wanted to buy their produce, so they also sell their own home- reared pork, lamb and goat meat – this is an area they are keen to develop. They plan to hold Farmers’ Markets and are am keen to work with other food producers to bring their food and tourism sectors to life. Ailsa is a member of Scottish Agritourism and see very positive and exciting times ahead.
